Schmiedshau was a little village in Eastern Europe that was established by colonizing Germans in the 1660s. My grandfather's parents were both born there, and though he was born in Pittsburgh, PA, my grandfather did live in Schmiedshau as a young boy for a short time. With the close of WWII, the German population was driven out of Schmiedshau, and the village adopted a Slovak identity, under the name of Tuzina, the name it bears today. Tuzina is located in west central Slovakia, in the vicinity of Nitra. Below is the cover of a book which discusses the village's history and development.
