UNFORGIVING WIND
(c) 2006 Music and Lyrics by Rick Swanson

An unforgiving wind
Came through my town today
Deep in October
The skies a dreary gray
Trees bending but not breaking
Roots deep within the ground
Thirty foot pine with shallow roots
Came crashing to the ground

Unforgiving wind, what damage will you do?
What will fall and what will stand
After you blow through?

An unforgiving illness
Swept through my young son’s frame
It came on without warning
No one to take the blame
In silent desperation
One thought raced through my mind:
Would he stand tall or go the way
Of that once might pine?

Unforgiving wind, what damage will you do?
What will fall and what will stand
After you blow through?

The warm Spring sun is shining
Birds fly on the breeze
A gentle wind is blowing
Through the leaves on the trees
My son stands tall before me
Victorious o’er the storm
Deep roots in friends and family
Keeping him from harm

Unforgiving wind, no more damage will you do
He will stand, he will not fall
He will not yield to you

Unforgiving wind, what damage will you do?
What will fall and what will stand
After you blow through?
